Midway’s Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) offered at Midway College – one of the top colleges in Kentucky – is a blended program that can help you realize the dream of becoming the best teacher you can be and enhance the lives of your pupils and other individuals around you.

The Master of Arts in Teaching program at Midway College is designed for individuals who have already earned a bachelor’s degree in an area of study other than teacher education and would like to enter the profession of teaching.

Blended Format (on campus and online)

The MAT program at Midway College was structured with convenience in mind. This blended degree requires students to do in-seat work on campus only at the beginning of the program and all other required coursework online. This structure makes it easier for our graduate students to fit their own education in their demanding daily schedule. Student teaching and field experience will be done in a school system.

Two Tracks

1. MAT track I is for students who hold a bachelors degree in a teaching subject area. If the student’s undergraduate degree is in the area of English, mathematics, biology or social studies, the student can earn an MAT to teach in one of those disciplines at the middle school (5-9) level or if the undergraduate degree is in biology, English or mathematics they can earn the MAT to teach at the secondary (9-12) level or dual middle and secondary (5-12).

2. MAT track II is for students whose undergraduate degree falls outside these areas. Those students can earn an MAT focused on Learning and Behavior Disorders (P-12).

The MAT online program provides aspiring teachers, who already hold a baccalaureate degree but not in education, with the skills and knowledge needed to obtain a teacher certification.

Eight certifications

MAT includes eight possible certifications: MAT in Middle School Certification in English, Math, Science or Social Studies; Secondary Certification in Biology, English, Math or Learning and Behavior Disorders (LBD).
